SWINDON FOR EUROPE
Newsletter 3: 10 Sep 2017
Firstly, hello and welcome to all the new members who have joined us since Newsletter 2.
A big WELL DONE to all the Swindon people who went to support the PEOPLE’S MARCH FOR EU in London on Saturday 9th September! Eight Swindon for Europe members attended. We also encountered a few more Swindon Remainers on the march who we hadn’t met before, which just goes to show, there are many, many of us, and the country has NOT accepted Brexit. We were also helping to hand out EU flags at the Albert Hall, helping to turn the Last Night of the Prom audience into a ‘Sea of Blue’ (as the media put it!) There has been far more media coverage this time than on the previous huge London STOP BREXIT march on 25/03/17.
A whole series of Remain rallies and marches are coming up, known as ‘The Autumn of Discontent’, including:
Sunday 17/09 Bournemouth,
Sunday 24/09 Brighton,
Sunday 01/10 Manchester
Saturday 14/10 Bristol.
You probably know that Swindon UKIP organised a pro Leave march in the town centre yesterday. We refused to be distracted from our national event; however, we are planning to hold our own march in Swindon at some point in the future. To be large enough this would need support from other groups such as the Lib Dem and Green parties and visiting Remain groups from neighbouring towns etc. More urgent is to create a regular street presence in Swindon, because
99% of Remainers are not on Facebook and don’t know we are still fighting Brexit!!! We must change this.
Steve and Fareed have been test campaigning at Swindon Pride Festival and Swindon Station pm rush hour. The reception was mostly positive, gaining us several new members. We are planning to try different locations in the town, so if ANYONE WANTS TO CAMPAIGN WITH US, PLEASE LET US KNOW.
There’s been a Brexit War in the Evening Advertiser lately, with the Remainers being out numbered, so we’ve been writing in, defending the Remain cause. Adam Poole and Steve Rouse had letters printed and Talis Kimberley Fairburn (Green candidate for Wroughton), and Steve Rouse were interviewed for the article the printed about our group on 22/August.
Our Brainstorming/Structuring Workshop with Adam Poole was both entertaining and constructive, giving us some great ideas. BRAINSTORMING PART 2 will be at 7.30pm on Thursday 28th of Sept. ALL MEMBERS WELCOME. The more the merrier! (Let us know if you’re coming).
On Sunday 15th of October a fun and fundraising event, the INDOOR ‘EURO-GARAGE SALE’ with glitter tattoos/ face painting (blue and yellow?!), cakes, hot drinks, train race, tombola and lots of bargains will be held at 8 Woodland View, Wroughton. ANY CONTRIBUTIONS OF UNWANTED ITEMS are welcome for this.
WE ARE SEEKING MORE ACTIVE CAMPAIGNERS, SO IF YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP US IN ANY WAY, PLEASE GET IN CONTACT!
Greetings from Steve, Marisa and Fareed
